The Nevada Hotel and Lodging Association is the recipient of the International Society of Associations (ISHA) Award of Excellence for Nevada’s outstanding association program for Women in Lodging (WIL). The Awards of Excellence recipients were announced at the 2018 ISHA Winter Conference.
The NHLA Women in Lodging program was founded by NHLA President, Diane Gandy, and a small group of top leading industry women in 2015 including Mary Ann Burns, Mary Giuliano, Shannon McCallum, Dr. Toni Repetti and Ronna Timpa. The leadership council has expanded significantly over the past two years to include several female leaders. The council members develop and assist with many programs and activities for female leaders in the hospitality industry in Nevada.
WIL programs and events continue to expand focusing on leadership development, career enhancement, networking and philanthropy. A mentor program was designed and implemented with several hundred women going through it over the period of the past 3 years and continues to grow. The mentor program is offered twice per year and pairs a WIL member with an experienced female mentor willing to share expertise, guidance, new horizons and wisdom.
Seminars and conferences are held monthly or quarterly throughout the year for WIL members. Guest presenters are high level members with leadership and specific topic of interest experience to share.
A new quarterly program, WIL Leadership Chats, was implemented last year whereas a senior female leader hosts an event where she shares her career journey and offers tips and advice to a small group of WIL members.
The WIL Leadership Book Club begins this month and will be offered in 6 weeks sessions. Each session a leadership book will be assigned and will include informal meetings where the participants discuss the information in the book and how it can help in their professional leadership growth and challenges.
NHLA WIL philanthropy supports Dress for Success in both SNV and NNV by hosted donation drives and fundraisers. Members take pride in being able to help women in Nevada’s communities becoming self-supportive and stable. NHLA WIL has also supported The Shade Tree and Noah’s House over the past few years in donations and contributions.
NHLA WIL appreciates the ISHA Award of Excellence
“We are so thrilled and appreciative to receive the ISHA Award of Excellence for our NHLA WIL program,” states Diane Gandy, President. “Being able to offer our female leaders throughout Nevada the resources for career and leadership growth while building a strong professional network is key to everyone’s success. The NHLA board of directors and staff fully support our industry professionals with our many programs, events, resources and activities.”
