January 7, 2020 by Nevada Hotel and Lodging Association

What’s ahead for NHLA members in January?

NHLA is one of the most active hotel associations in the country offering conferences, seminars, certifications, networking opportunities, Women in Lodging, leadership development and our Emerging Leaders program for young professionals. NHLA members are encouraged to take advantage of the many resources and programs available.

NHLA members

Kicking off the new year, we start with our education committee meeting scheduled for January 13.  Members of this committee help to steer us in the right direction to be sure we are providing relevant and trending educational topics and activities.

On January 15 our Women in Lodging philanthropy committee will meet to discuss plans for 2020 activities to support women in our industry and community who can use some extra assistance.  We support Dress for Success in Southern and Northern Nevada and gear some of our events around these two important entities.

Ronna Timpa

Ronna Timpa, one of our most active members, will teach a business writing class in Carson City for NHLA members and guests at the Carson Chamber of Commerce on January 16.

Valued partner, The International School of Hospitality (TISOH), will present a program in NNV on January 17 at the Atlantis.  The topic is “Disciplining, Coaching and Reviewing Properly and with Compassion.”

Committee openings for any NHLA members

On January 21, our Nevada Hotel and Lodging Foundation board will meet to finalize plans for 2020.  The foundation provides scholarships for NHLA members and immediate families.  There are several committees supporting the foundation and we have room for more members on each.

Women in Lodging mentor

The winter session for our Women in Lodging mentor program will begin.  Women interested in being a mentor and sharing advice and experiences with mentees should sign up as a mentor.  Women looking to expand horizons and knowledge have the perfect opportunity to do so when participating as a mentee.  The winter session begins January 21.

On January 29, NHLA Emerging Leaders members have a fantastic opportunity to attend “New Year, New You” at the TISOH campus.  Creating and maintaining an impressive professional brand is critical to career success. Special guest presenter will be Karen Betz, Chief Customer Officer with Dale Carnegie of Nevada.  This workshop will address how to be confident in your professional presence.  Complimentary professional head shots will be offered to Emerging Leaders attending the workshop.

All of our events are broadcast out to members in the database and placed on the nvhotels.com event calendar.  Be sure to sign up to attend and remember, if your company is a member of NHLA, so are you!
