April always brings signs of spring and many activities and that is certainly the case at NHLA. We have a very full calendar of events. Take a look at what’s happening in April at NHLA.
We kick off the month with a fun social activity with our Women in Lodging members. On April 5, TJ McNally, Corporate Director of Beverage with Boyd Gaming, will present a cocktail mixology demo. Our WIL attendees will have the opportunity to taste the tempting creations.
April 6 brings a group of some of the most respected leaders in the industry together for a panel discussion with our Emerging Leaders. Moderated by Anthony Lai, Student Program Manager with TISOH, the panel will share their experiences and guidance with our up-and-coming leaders.
On April 12, the Emerging Leaders council will meet for the Q2 planning session. The Q2 Women in Lodging Council will meet the next day.
A Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention seminar will be presented by our security committee co-chairs, Terry Bauer, Soleil Management and Lisel Westlake, MGMRI, on April 13. This important session will address key points in identifying, handling and preventing human trafficking in our industry.
The NHLA Clean and Green committee will meet on April 14. The committee is responsible for assisting in presenting resources and information relevant to housekeeping and sustainability.
The NHLA Read to Lead Book Club is back! On April 18, book club participants will begin a journey of reading “Rising Strong” by Brene’ Brown. There will be a total of 3 sessions as participants explore the book in a comfortable and friendly environment.
The Emerging Leaders will begin the NHLA mentor program on April 19. The program pairs emerging leaders with an experienced leader for 10 weeks. The mentor program is flexible and designed to work with everyone’s schedules on an individual basis. It is one of the most popular NHLA programs.
The Q2 NNV council meeting will take place on April 20. The council leaders assist in ensuring NHLA offers relevant resources, programs and activities for our Northern Nevada members.
NHLA is presenting a luncheon at the Atlantis in Reno featuring Michele Kline, Kline Hospitality Consulting, as our guest speaker. Michele will discuss the importance of reinvention for career success. What does that mean? Join us on April 22.
WIL members will have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Finley Cotrone, UNLV, as she talks about time management. If you have ever said “Where does my time go?” this is the session for you. It will take place at the Orleans on April 27.
The Inaugural Great Chef Run 5K is happening on April 30 at Kellogg Zaher Park. The event will support funding for the Nevada Hotel and Lodging Foundation scholarship fund. There will be food trucks, raffle prizes, vendors and lots of people looking to run, walk, or jog. Don’t miss this fantastic event!
