January, 2017…the new year is here. Ideally the holiday decorations are neatly packed away. Most likely we have all started a new routine of healthy exercise and living. We are diving into our work with renewed energy. The zest for life is back. Isn’t that what happens every January? NHLA also has a busy January and vibrant year planned for our members.
The NHLA Women in Lodging council will meet on January 19. The new 2017-2018 term brings new leaders. Shannon McCallum has stepped into the role of WIL Chairperson and Lyra Hynie assumes the position of WIL Vice Chairperson. Founding members remain on the council and include Mary Giuliano-past chairperson, Ronna Timpa, Mary Ann Burns, Dr. Toni Repetti and Diane Gandy. New members include Heather Kinnear representing NNV, Jaime Miranda, Catherine Brame and Carolyn Kelly-Shelton. The theme for 2017 is “Professional Women Inspiring all Women.”
The WIL winter mentor program kicks off January 19. Mentors and mentees will meet at Tahiti Village at 5:00 p.m. to learn about the program and discuss goals and expectations. This program is very popular and well worth the time. NHLA receives tremendous feedback on the mentor program. It’s not too late, WIL members can still sign up to participate.
NRG new leadership council
On January 20 the new NRG young professionals’ council will meet at the NHLA offices. Janice Tanaka has been appointed chairperson; Anthony Lai assumes the role of vice chairperson. Jazz Woodward will chair the programs committee and Evan Meyer will be the chairperson for the communication committee. Other council members include Mike Singer, Shay Velich, Kayla Colbert and Jeremi Situmpol. The NRG team will focus on career development, networking, education and philanthropy. Philanthropic efforts will benefit Project 150.
LVCVA hosts NHLA Q1 social
The Q1 NHLA social will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center on January 24. Rafael Villanueva, Senior Director of International Sales, will present information on the China tourism program and its positive impact on Las Vegas. Attend this social.
The Atlantis will host a Women in Lodging breakfast in Reno on January 25. Special guest presenter is Claudia Vecchio, Director at Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. Claudia will discuss news, activities and programs for the upcoming year. Register to attend.
The Northern Nevada Council will meet on January 25. The council is chaired by Diane Gandy and members include Jonathan Boulware, Bill Henderson, Debra Lang, Jim Kenney, Vicki Savini, Audrey Damonte, Cheraz Ecker, and Jeff Pearson. The council works with the NHLA team in recommending and guiding activities for the Northern Nevada membership.
