As we all enjoy our spring weather, the NHLA team is busy scheduling a variety of events for our NHLA members for spring. No one gets bored when they are members of NHLA! We do offer so many programs and activities, (about 90 per year), there truly is something for everyone.
NHLA to tour MGM Grand
As we finish out the month of April, we have a popular Behind the Scenes event coming up on April 22. Our member, MGM Grand, is hosting a tour of this iconic resort. Our members will have the opportunity to view the recent major renovation within the property and learn more about this magnificent property.
Need a little brush-up or some tips on PowerPoint or Word? Here’s your chance
Our ongoing PowerPoint and Word classes provided by Dr. Sherrie Tennessee with UNLV will continue over the next few weeks. We have been happy to sponsor Word and PowerPoint sessions ranging from basic to intermediate to advanced giving everyone a chance to hone their skills.
Don’t miss the famous Great Chef Run 5K hosted by NHLF
And of course, our Nevada Hotel and Lodging Foundation’s signature event, the Great Chef Run 5K, will take place on April 26 at James Regional Park. Proceeds benefit scholarships for students of all ages entering or continuing education in the hospitality industry. NHLF has granted nearly $100,000 in scholarships since its inception. This event attracts hundreds of attendees and visitors. Now in its 4th year, with chef demos, tasty treats, vendors, and lots of fun in the sun, this 5K has become one of the most anticipated in the region. It is not too late…you can still register to participate. Bring your family or a team of participants and walk, jog or run the scenic course.

We should all be a Fan of Others and renowned leadership coach and best-selling author, D. J. Allen, will be here to offer great guidance, ideas and motivation on April 29. Join us for a lively morning filled with fun, inspiration and great spirit. One of our leaders who attended one of his events said, “This was a life-changing event for me. One of the best I have ever attended!” Don’t miss it.
NHLA offers a Behind the Scenes tour and adventure for Family Day
This year our NHLA Family Day will take us to a special Behind the Scenes tour of the Discovery Children’s Museum on May 3. Following the tour, the museum will open and NHLA members will have the opportunity to explore and play in this iconic facility. NHLA members may bring their family members to this fun morning of activity.
Another super popular event – NHLA Annual Golf Tournament
On May 10, we will see nearly 100 NHLA members at Angel Park participating in the NHLA Annual Golf Tournament. The golfers will enjoy a grab and go breakfast, a morning of golf at the scenic course, a luncheon, trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, longest drive and closest to the pin, and a raffle filled with amazing prizes. The golf holes will have our member suppliers offering a range of fun activities and goodies. AND let’s not forget…a hole-in-one will win that lucky golfer $25,000! Can anyone in our group get a hole-in-one? We hope so! We still have a few golfer spots available-reserve now before we sell out!
Maximize energy efficiency and utilize business incentives for your company through NV Energy
On May 13 experts from NV Energy will give us ideas of how to maximize energy within our businesses and hotels as well as let us know about incentives and programs that are available to assist in cutting costs. Anyone who has responsibility in the area of energy conservation – and don’t we all? – should attend. There is no charge for NHLA members. Register now.
Emerging Leaders Mentor Program Conclusion
Over 60 people are participating in our Emerging Leaders mentor program this session. The mentees are learning so much from their experienced mentors that will help them build their career growth. On May 19 we will hold an event at the Orleans for the conclusion of this mentor session which will include complimentary professional headshots for those who would like to update, and a presentation by Dr. Sherrie Tennessee for mastering tips and tricks for updating LinkedIn profiles for professional growth and opportunities. Emerging Leaders program participants are invited to attend at no charge and will also receive a certificate of completion. Other NHLA members are invited to register to support our Emerging Leaders and enjoy the evening.
